Susan Adams
WIT Director of Initiatives Beazer Homes
Susan has been an active member of WIT since 2004 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2005. In 2006, Susan will continue in her role as Director of Initiatives working with the chairs of the Speakers Bureau and Executive Coaching programs.
Susan has 17 years experience in the technology sector including 11 years of experience in various areas of the energy industry. Most recently, Susan was a Vice President for LAVA Group. Her responsibility was evaluating cutting-edge technologies for comparability to existing products, patentability, and commercialization value. She was also responsible for operational roles such as assisting clients with intellectual property management and protection, establishing corporate strategy for client acquisition, and for leading patent infringement and commercialization projects primarily for technology related products and processes.
Prior to joining LAVA Group, Susan founded and served as President of Mirant Intellectual Asset Management and Marketing LLC, a subsidiary of Mirant. In this role, Susan was responsible for recognizing, protecting, and developing Mirant's intellectual assets. While there Susan took the patent portfolio from 0 to 25 pending patents. Previously, Adams served as a founding partner of Mirant Capital Management, a venture capital division that invested equity capital in growth companies across the energy industry.
From 1997 until December 2000, Susan was Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Southern Energy Asia-Pacific, a subsidiary of the Southern Company in Hong Kong. As CIO, Susan had regional responsibility for all aspects of information resources in five countries including establishing and implementing information technology standards and strategies throughout all Asian offices and plants. In this role, Susan built an international IT organization from the ground up. Susan had to hire and develop the personnel as well as analyze, acquire, and implement the technology required to provide world class support for the business.
Before joining Southern Energy Asia-Pacific in 1997, Susan held various positions in information resources at Southern Company Services, Oglethorpe Power and Broadway and Seymour Consulting including those of Business Account Manager, Senior Business Analyst, Product Specialist, and Senior Systems Analyst.
Susan is a graduate of University of Georgia with a degree in Computer Science. She also has a MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business with emphasis in Global Management. Susan currently resides in Marietta, Georgia.
