WIT Accepting Nominations for Seventh Annual
Women of the Year in Technology Awards

The nominations process opens January 4th and will continue through February 24th, 2006.

January 5, 2006 - ATLANTA, GA - Women in Technology (WIT), the leading association devoted to the development of Georgia's businesswomen in the technology industry today announces that the nominations period for the 2006 Women of the Year in Technology Awards (WOTY) has opened.  The Awards recognize women who hold business, technology or scientific leadership roles within a technology corporation or those who hold technology or scientific leadership roles in a non-technology corporation.

The award, given in partnership with presenting sponsor Grant Thornton LLP, is in its seventh year.  Nominations will be accepted through February 24th.  Nominees must reside in Georgia and be associated with an organization that is headquartered or affiliated in Georgia.

Last year, recognizing the growth of women in the industry and the unique challenges and achievements that women operating in different business environments face, WIT expanded the Women of the Year Awards to include three distinct categories:

  • Not-For-Profit / Government
Must be in the non-profit or public sectors and have a presence in Georgia.
  • Enterprise Business
Must have more than $500M in annual revenue and either be based in or have a presence in Georgia.
  • Small / Medium Business
Must have less than $500M in annual revenue and either be based in or have a presence in Georgia.

Nominations are submitted by filling out an application located on WIT's website at www.witinc.org/SpecialEvents/WomenOfTheYear/HowToNominate.aspx.  Additional information is also available on the site.  Once the nominations period closes on February 24th, all applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds.  A panel of distinguished nationally recognized judges will select award recipients.

"Each year we relish the opportunity to recognize the top women in technology in Georgia," said Marsha Calfee, 2006 President for WIT.  "These are women who have demonstrated superior leadership both within and outside of their organizations and have made significant contributions to their colleagues and to the community.  The Women of the Year Award shines the spotlight on these achievements."

"Grant Thornton is a founding sponsor of this prestigious event.  We continue to support this award because we strongly believe that it is an extraordinary way to pay tribute to the women in the Georgia technology community," said André Schnabl, Grant Thornton Atlanta Office Managing Partner.  "This award offers support to women as they develop professionally within the technology industry and is very much consistent with one of our firm's initiatives which is to support and encourage women to excel at Grant Thornton.

Finalists will be announced at a VIP reception on March 22nd.  Award recipients will be announced and recognized during the 2006 Women of the Year Awards ceremony on April 27th at Atlanta's newest exclusive venue, TWELVE Atlantic Station.
