Home Depot and the WIT Foundation's Girls Get IT Program Shows Young April 26, 2006 - ATLANTA, GA - The WIT Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Women in Technology (WIT), the leading association committed to the development of Georgia's businesswomen in the technology industry, today announced that it will be teaming up with Home Depot for the next Girls Get IT event. This event, taking place on Saturday, May 6th, is designed to educate young women between 15 and 17 years old about how Home Depot uses technology in its business and what careers in technology are available within the company. Advanced registration is required for this event and participants must provide their own transportation. Girls can sign up by emailing Nancy Taylor at nancy-taylor@comcast.net or by calling her at 404-402-2117. The event is free to attend and all participants will receive giveaways, including T-shirts and backpacks. Also, there will be 3 iPod Nanos raffled and everyone will be registered to win one. "We are pleased that Home Depot has agreed to provide this unique look into the technology side of their business," said Tana Glassford, Girls Get IT Director, WIT Foundation. "This is a wonderful opportunity to educate young women who are about to make decisions about colleges and courses of study to open their eyes to a career path they may have not otherwise thought of." Through partnerships with Georgia businesses such as the Weather Channel, CISCO, Playmotion!, MARTA, Kaiser Permanente and IBM, Girls Get IT has showcased the types of careers that are available to those who major in math or science. Girls Get IT seeks to show girls different aspects of a variety of careers in technology or careers where technology is a major enabler. Sign in will run from 6:30-7:00 a.m. on the morning of the event. The event will run from 7-9 a.m. For more information, contact Nancy Taylor or go to http://www.witinc.org/WITFoundation/.
