Women In Technology (WIT) Adds Jannet Thoms to Foundation Board
Deputy General Manager of Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will be Director

May 18, 2007 – ATLANTA, GA - Women In Technology (WIT), the leading association devoted to the development of Georgia's businesswomen in the technology industry, has elected Jannet Thoms to the board of directors for its Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the organization.  Thoms has been associated with WIT for the past couple of years, having been a nominee and winner of the 2006 Women of the Year in Technology Awards, and a judge for the same awards in 2007."

We are so pleased Jannet has agreed to serve as a part of the WIT Foundation," said Sue Miller, WIT Foundation President.  "She is an effective leader, well respected in the technology community, and has a wealth of experience serving on boards.  Jannet is a great role model for girls and young women interested in a career in technology.  We look forward to having her assistance on our board."

The WIT Foundation's board develops policies and endorses programs that support its mission of encouraging girls and young women to consider careers in technology.  The foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) that maintains its own officers and board of directors.  In the past year, the foundation has funded teams including girls to participate in robotics competitions through a partnership with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and funded East Cobb Middle School's F1 in Schools team trip to compete in the world championships in Australia.  It has also partnered with Cool Girls "Cool Tech" program and the YWCA's TGI Tech program.

"I believe in the goals of the WIT Foundation and am pleased to be helping them further their mission," stated Thoms.  "I have enjoyed great success in the industry, and look forward to helping inspire other girls and young women to follow.  There are simply not enough females pursuing degrees in math, the sciences, and technology.  We have to change that to keep the US competitive."
