As senior vice president and chief information officer, Becky Blalock directs information technology strategy and operations across the 120,000 square miles and 9 subsidiaries of Southern Company. She leads more than 1,100 employees and her responsibilities encompass infrastructure, networks, desktops, applications, telephony and cyber security. Blalock began her career at Georgia Power in 1978. Prior to accepting her current position, she was vice president of Georgia Power’s Community and Economic Development Department. Blalock serves on several boards, including the Information Technology Association of the America’s CIO Council; the advisory boards for TechLINKS and Atlanta Woman Magazine. She also serves as Chair of Leadership Atlanta, and the IT advisory board for Georgia State University. She is the chair of the Edison Electric Institute Technology Advisory Council. A graduate of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Georgia, she was named a Fellow of the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation in 2001. Also, she penned a chapter in Inside the Minds: Creating a Strategic Technology Plan for Your Company and guest columns for CIO and TechLINKS magazines. Blalock has received a host of honors, including being named 2007 CIO of the Year by Computers for Youth and among the Who's Who in Science and Engineering. In 2006, she was named one of Computerworld Magazine’s Premier 100 IT Leaders, Power Woman by Atlanta Woman Magazine, and the Shining Star Award recipient from the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. She was inducted into the 2005 Atlanta YWCA Academy of Women Achievers and named 2003 Georgia CIO of the Year, Global Category, by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association.
