2005 Winners

2005 WIT's Women of the Year in Technology winners were announced at the awards dinner held on April 14, 2005 at the Fox Theatre.

In 2005, the Women of the Year in Technology Award was extended from one to three categories. These categories reflect the growth of the Award program and recognize the unique challenges, opportunities and achievements of women in each type of business environment.


 

2005 Award Categories:

  • Enterprise Business

    Nominees for the Enterprise Business category are involved with the large companies in Georgia. These companies do not need to be based in Georgia, but they do need to have a Georgia presence. Companies falling into this category have $500M or more in annual revenue.

  • Small/Medium Business

    Nominees for the Small/Medium Business category are involved with small and medium companies in Georgia. These companies may be either based in Georgia or based elsewhere but have a Georgia presence. Companies falling into this category have under $500M in annual revenue.

  • Not for Profit/Public Sector

    Nominees for the Not for Profit/Public Sector category are involved with organizations in the government (federal, state, or local), educational, or charitable sector. Size of the organization is not relevant to this category, which may include nominees from organizations ranging from government, to universities, to healthcare or research groups, to charities.

 

2005 Winner - Enterprise Business

Pamela Pure
Executive Vice-President,

Pamela Pure is executive vice president of McKesson Corporation and president of McKesson Provider Technologies (MPT). She is responsible for leading the company's software, robotics and other automation initiatives in the hospital, homecare and ambulatory markets. Pure provides vision as well as daily operational leadership for a broad range of internal and customer activities and is the executive sponsor for McKesson's closed-loop medication management strategy, which draws upon multiple divisions of the company to deliver a unique and integrated solution designed to help make healthcare safer.

Pure has more than 20 years of executive and operational experience in healthcare IT, particularly in the areas of product management, corporate strategy and business operations. Under her direction, McKesson successfully introduced Horizon ClinicalsTM, a line of software products enabling the delivery of safer care.

Customer satisfaction and service measures have continued to improve since Pure joined McKesson in 2001, and she has played a key role in a number of the largest customer implementations. Today, McKesson's Web-based physician portal tracks 1.3 million logins each month and is used by physicians affiliated with more than 400 facilities nationwide. McKesson systems issue 400,000 warnings each week, thus preventing an estimated 56,000 errors.

2005 Winner - Small/Medium Business

Bonnie Herron

Bonnie L. Herron is Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Intelligent Systems Corporation, a 32 year-old public company with operations and investments in technology companies. Ms. Herron is responsible for corporate wide investment due diligence, strategic planning, budgeting, financial and SEC reporting, contracts and legal matters. She also directs all operations, mentoring and entrepreneurial support programs for the Intelligent Systems technology incubator, recently ranked in the top 10 U.S. technology incubators.

Ms. Herron is immediate past Chair and a two-term board member of the National Business Incubation Association. She is on the board of directors of the Atlanta Venture Forum and several of ISC's portfolio companies. She has served on the board of the Technology Association of Georgia, the Advisory Council of Georgia's Intellectual Capital Partnership Program, the Southeast Software Association and the AEA Southeastern Chapter.

Prior to her present position, Ms. Herron was the General Manager of Datavue Corporation, Director of Planning at Quadram Corporation and ISC, and Director of Athletics at a high school in Ontario, Canada. Ms. Herron received an M.B.A. from Mercer University, Atlanta and B.A and B.P.H.E. degrees from the University of Toronto. She frequently speaks at incubator industry events in the U.S. and abroad.

2005 Winner - Not For Profit / Public Sector

Elaine Mitchell Norman
VP and Chief Information Officer
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta

Elaine Norman serves as Chief Information Officer for the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta (UWMA), the sixth largest United Way in the country in terms of dollars raised. As CIO, she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the United Way's Information Technology strategies, business practices, operations and infrastructure. Her background includes over 20 years in the Information Technology industry.

Under Norman's leadership, and during her first year on board, UWMA met its goals of successfully launching an automated Pledge Processing System and Electronic Pledging System. This system has streamlined the way pledges are processed throughout the United Way system. The electronic pledging project resulted in: an overall reduction of over 90 percent in the costs of running a United Way campaign for corporate partners and internally to United Way; an 85 percent savings in administrative costs to process pledges; a 60 percent reduction in pledge processing cycle time and a customer satisfaction rating of 4.67 (out of a possible 5.0).

Norman was named 2002 Georgia CIO of the Year. She is an active member of the board of the Georgia CIO Leadership Association and is the chair of the 2005 Membership Committee. She serves as a mentor with Georgia 100 and participates in speaking engagements and panel discussions for technology affinity groups. Norman is a long-time member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and Women in Technology (WIT).

Elaine has been recognized as a community agent through her work at the United Way.
