Mark Justice, PR & Director of Education for Cobb EMC, hosted a group of 21 girls from Girls Get IT on a tour of their facilities. We started the morning with a presentation from Bob Arnett, Associate VP of Technology Services, regarding the technology infrastructure at Cobb EMC and their plans for the implementation of a new Billing system that will integrate many of their existing processes. Allene Ternery, one of Cobb EMC's LAN Software Specialists, shared her work experience with the girls, and encouraged everyone to get an education and build a career where they can stand on their own feet. Jeanette Cogdell, responsible for maintaining Cobb Energy's intranet and website, shared her job responsibilities and background with the girls.
Next, we hiked over to the Engineering Building for a tour of the Power Control Room, led by John Meadows. John explained how his team uses technology to track problems and route their road technicians to the right spot at the right time. We wrapped up the tour with Sharon Brown, from the Mapping team. She showed us how her team uses sophisticated software systems to map out power lines in the smallest detail, right up to their customers' door! We ended the day with a pizza lunch provided by Cobb EMC.
All in all, we had a terrific time learning how Cobb EMC is using technology to keep the lights on for their customers!
