     The Weather Channel

For the second year in a row, The Weather Channel hosted another outstanding event for the Girls Get IT program, an initiative of the WIT Foundation.

On Saturday, November 19, a group of 26 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls visited The Weather Channel. They heard from members of The Weather Channel's management team and a variety of employees with widely differing careers about their job responsibilities and the exciting career opportunities available to women in the fields of technology and science.

A tour of the Quality Assurance area gave everyone a glimpse of how technology helps the Weather Channel provide the highest quality of service and information to their cable and satellite customers. They listened while one of the meteorologists explained the software he uses each day to help analyze weather patterns, and heard his predictions about what to expect from Mother Nature for Thanksgiving holiday travels to different parts of the country.

Each girl had the opportunity to pretend to be a meteorologist and stand in front of the "green screen", experiencing first-hand how technology transforms a green background into a weather map!

Girls Get IT and some lucky girls were seen on national television!

By the end of the tour, the Girls Get IT participants learned about exciting careers to keep in mind as they make future choices about their education. The Weather Channel team did an excellent job in accomplishing our shared goal - they demonstrated the possibilities available to girls in the areas of math, technology and science.

Thanks to the Weather Channel team for hosting such a wonderful and successful event!
